Safranin Sound strikes again

Posted almost 3 years ago

I get to fill THIS gap?!? Oh goody goody goody!

Ever since Pekka introduced me to DC-area noise-pop merchants Ceremony, I've been in love with most of the output on the Safranin Sound label. They have such a fun aesthetic, with their homespun music videos all over YouTube and similar loves of drum machines, effects pedals, and white-hot noise.

This is a real treat for you all. Fellow DC band Screen Vinyl Image have released their debut full-length album Interceptors, and it's a delight. No one-trick pony, their music jumps from chilly Kraut touches to Chicago house to APTBS-levels.

If this intrigues you at all, and I think it does, head on over to the release site for Interceptors here. The album should be available now, and for the low low price of $12 you get the CD and the vinyl, along with a remix 12-inch.

I know money's tight everywhere, but seriously consider supporting a band like this. Too many of the bands on Safranin sond cannot tour beyond the occasional trip to New York, and it would be great to see them gain further exposure. Wichita's a bit much to ask, but still ...

Dig their video for "Fever", also from Interceptors.

Yeah, I need to go order this as well Mike.

Yeah Dave, our tastes are pretty close. I never did thank you for bringing Manhattan Love Suicides to my attention, btw. :)

    Ah, cool Dale.

I really like the MLS a lot.

I'm also curious about the new Asobi Seksu record.  I like what I've heard so far.

Yup. This...is...A-MAZ-ING! If they've come out west, I sure haven't heard about it. If their live shows are anything like the recordings - Ooo-wee! Bring 'em on!

DALE! I WAS GOING TO POST ABOUT THEM TODAY! WOW. {caps lock off} How telepathic can you be?

I love them. I listened to this album just yesterday and it's mesmerizing. I especially adore Fever, Slipping Away, Asteroid Exile, Until The End of Time, and What You Need.

You are my twin. There's no doubt {not that there ever was any}.

Now that I've read your recent posts Amiel, this fell right into what you were talking about, non?

From what I've seen on their MySpace and website Mike, they've never traveled west. As far as I know, the only Safranin Sound band to make the trip is The Vandelles, who are also awesome but in more of a Raveonettes mode.

YOU WERE?!? NO WAY! That's actually kinda creepy, but in a good way. That twin connection strikes again as well! :)

I haven't been able to pick a favorite yet, but I'm leaning toward Fever, Until The End of Time, and Lost in Repeat. No wI need to go listen some more, gaaaaah!

Noiceee. I haven't been tuning into Safranin Sound (my bad). Wow, $12, huh? I would if I could... Love the band name, too.

Don't feel bad Ilay, you're maybe one of about 500 people that have heard of them, it's a tiny little label in suburban DC. Without MOG, I never would have heard of them either.

ya know, why could I not find this before I posted on them today?? Oh, well great tastes and all, and at least mine is a review on the whole set. I just realized how much I had been listening to this this year, and thought they had no recog around here. Should have known you'd be there, O great one. and guess what, I even chose that same mid-point song...well, I'm learning!!

I like it, but we will have to see.  They got a little too "wall of sound" for me in a couple of the songs... gonna let it sink in a day or two.

One thing I will say, like the Raveonettes, they sound better Live than in Studio. At least with the "Fever" Track.
