Listening to the album while I write this, I've decided that this is all about Mara Miller's inability to fit in in 'her town'. Which must be typical small town of the west.
Life becomes more bearable in places like these with someone to love, a best friend to distract you from the empty facial expressions from the people on the street. Though, in this album you see Mara must've lost her friend.
In Went Walking ,On and Off (parts 1,2,3) ,This Town you can see the outlines of this clearly. In other tracks it seems she's more in peace with where she lives and the easiness. In Train Song, there's something in the chorus that makes me visualise a copule of backup singers doing a small routine.
Four years after her first album,Bosque Brown Plays Mara Lee Miller, she has gained obvious confidence in herself. Maybe deriving from the affair she sings about. She's the sweetest voice and uses it in a way that takes you to where she lives. This is an album to listen lying on your bed.
