YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Doc Watson - Alberta

Posted about 1 year ago
Doc Watson seems to know every tune that has sounded in his part of Appalachia. I think this ballad is the most beautiful song of all that he's done.

  1. brittanybf says hi DL, I gave this song a listen and really liked what I heard. I'm always looking for some sort of folky songs/musicians, but never know what direction to go in. This I like and I think I'll look into getting more of his music. Thanks for sharing this sweet song.

  2. DLuebbert says Doc is a school in himself on Appalachian music, the underpinnings of bluegrass and country music. He doesn't do many ballads like "Alberta" but I've never heard any of his music that I dislike. Black singer/guitarists Big Bill Broonzy and Leadbelly somehow remind me of Doc a little. I guess that's because of the kind of performers they were, great guitarists from the South with an enormous repertoire who were also great singers, accompanying their own vocals. There's a more modern form of bluegrass music that mandolinist David Grisman does, that he jokingly calls "Dawg music", which I enjoy a lot. His stuff is almost all instrumental, except when he recorded with Jerry Garcia. Musicians who have come through his band, guitarist Tony Rice and violinist Darol Anger, are very impressive and worth checking out. I'll do a Grisman post shortly to highlight what he does.
