WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

My First Long Winded MOG.

Posted about 1 year ago
Today is my birthday. That's right, I'm making my first MOG post on my 50th birthday. So, I have 50 years of music history in me (my mother sung to me in the womb).I really became "aware" of the music scene starting about...well Ed Sullivan and 1963, but more so when I really picked up the guitar in about '66. I was immediately emerged--all the other musicians were older than me--in what could easily be argued the beginning of modern rock. Then, it was about...the music. So what about me? It's more what about we? We are Studio ChâteauNeuf located on the face of the Alps Maritimes in the French Riviera. And we are about...the music. The original creative team that have pooled their talents and resources to create Studio ChâteauNeuf have been involved in different aspects of the music business and all agree that the music industry lost it's way some time ago. The music industry, referred to herein as The Machine, has made it nearly impossible for young, diverse talent to develop. One must sound like the latest international “hit” and fit the mold of what The Machine demands. Further, if the music is of the genre considered “traditional”, the young artist would be better off investing his time and money in the lotto as his or her chances of success would be much greater. The Machine has made it such that it is no longer about the music nor its expression. We would like to see freedom and creativity return to music; where artists are not under pressure to conform. In an inspirational environment that spurs that creativity, we are, in whatever measure possible, attempting to counter The Machine with what we call The Dream. To that end, we have installed a recording studio in the mountains of the beautiful Gorge de Loup and have decided that the time is right to launch The Dream. The Dream consists of creating an exceptional environment where the artist or artists come to stay and record their work. Not some dirty and dingy recording studio, but overlooking the valley of the Loup river. Giving deference to the young who otherwise don't have either means nor access to such facilities, our purpose is the preservation and promotion of orignal, Franco-european music. It matters not who or what. From the street musician with his case open on the street to well seasoned groups of musicians. Rock, Blues, Metal, Jazz, Folk...it's all good. The best part of our model is that the independant artists pay for nothing to record their album. Further, there are no long term contracts; everything is considered on a project by project basis, and the entire operation is funded by net sales from the artists’ contribution to the Studio ChâteauNeuf catalogue. In addition, the artists retain all rights to their original content. Our intent is the conservation and promotion of the music, not to suck the life blood out of the artists. We believe it is important mission in today’s world, and united with the power of the Internet, we believe that the time is right to utilize the resources available and direct those efforts towards developing artists through the production and sale of recorded media. Well, that's who we are and well, being new here, we are going to browse new music and tell ya what we think. We hope that we can be informing in a thought provocative way.
