MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Album: Exodus
Track:

...In 1998 Bob Marley's Exodus album was named Time Magazine's album of the Century...Vivien Goldman wrote The Book of Exodus--The Making & Meaning of Bob Marley's Album of the Century which is a rockin' read that should be checked...

...though cuts like "Jammin'", "Waiting in Vain", "One Love" and the title track made it onto best of albums like Legend, "Heathen" never did which is fine by me, it holds one of Junior Marvin's bluesiest solos and exemplifies why the Barrett Brothers (Carlton and Familyman) were THE one drop, drum and bass team that kept the bottom in the pocket while the rest of the Wailers laid it down...I've peeped footage from this concert series before but don't recall seeing any of this tune which was a bonus find of the Gong et al, rockin' wild to "Heathen" back when they were at the top of their form:

Great to see my friend Vivien getting props. She did press at Island in 75 and had a huge influence on breaking Bob in the UK.

Great vid of a tremendous performance. Carlton and Aston are like a train, aren't they? Brought back lots of memories of seeing The Wailers. Nice way to start a frosty sunny Sunday.

@JI (10 Sundays later): I just re-read the book (finished today) and I'll tell's ya, "Viveen" was right there and unlike the Tim White stuff I'd read years ago (Catch a Fire) the mysticism didn't over-ride the journalism...I wasn't there, so I wouldn't know straight off, but from what I've learned in my readings, she got a lot of shite right (and down in print)...knowing first-hand about the recording process/ being on the road and all that, it really rang true..
