...Yeah Charles, I hear ya...but I did feel that "Paper Thin" and the Lyte as a Rock album...Dale, I think Tribe Called Quest and Gangstarr took that sound as far as it could go...I guess the Digables just faded into the ether...

The name of the album is "reachin (a new refutation of time and space)".

I used to love it but at some point, I'd heard it one time too many. Thanks for reminding me - I'm ripping the CD into iTunes right now :-D

dale:::i heard ladybug got all cracked out after blowout comb. once she got clean (i think) she put out a _horrendous_ solo album. i heard rumors a while back of a potential reunion, but i think that idea has dissolved.

i'm not a big fan of the reunions. just let the great bands die. or i suppose they could jump on the bandwagon and take a "break" or an "indefinite hiatus" or something. but don't call it a reunion...

all i imagine is a burnout calling up his friends on the phone and yelling "dude, the band's getting back together!". i don't know why.

Hazy college memory: Triple bill show of Digable, Tribe Called Quest, and De La Soul. The thing I remember most about that show was just how much Digable blew those guys off the stage. That much Im certain of. What Im not certain of at all is the name of the girl I made out with that night.

Digable was actually back last year. In addition to touring, they performed at Coachella 2006. Here's a pic I took. (somewhat far...but its them)

They were fantastic, one of my highlights from the weekend. "A nickle bag of funk."

Thanks for da memories Crash. Early 90's, aw shit that was 15 plus years ago. Here's a small timeline of "alt-rap" AKA The House that De La Built. You can see it didn't take long for the record companies to jump on the bandwagon, 'cause by 1991 there was a frenzy to sign acts who were "credible" in the post-Milli Vanilli era and as V. Ice and Hammer ruled the charts. The pinnacle arrived for alt rap with Arrested Development and Diggables and then the inevitable backlash against the PM Dawn's of the World and then the splintering and retreat from MTV and the charts. There were some good records (and some of the first stuff without an NYC or LA tag) and the beginning of the Hip Hop Underground (De La, Common, MF Doom) and the new credible, sellable rap (Fugees). A lot of new styles and voices on TV and radio everyday.Good Times.

De La Soul- 3 Feet High and Rising (1989) 3rd Base-The Cactus Album (1989) Divine Styler..Word Power (1989) then the insane Spiral Walls Containing Autumns of Light (1991) A Tribe Called Quest- People's Instinctive (1990) Poor Righteous Teachers-Holy Intellect (1990) KMD-Mr.Hood (featuring Zev Love X AKA MF Doom) Dream Warriors..And Now the Legacy Begins(1991) PM Dawnn- (title too long, perhaps thats why KRS was not amused-1991) Black Sheep- A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (1991) Arrested Development ..3 years 5 months...,(1992) Me Phi Me-One (1992) Common (Sense)- Can I borrow a Dollar? (1992) Digable Planets- Reachin' (1993) US3-Hand on the Torch (1993) Simple E..Colorz of Soundz (1994) Fugees-Blunted on Reality (1994)

I always had a soft spot for Simple E, though she did help see this era to the door.
