MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

...sometimes when I hear/read younger heads ranting and raving about "the next new thing" I get all "get off my lawn you meddling kids" up in the face...it's been said, it's been done and all that-- it makes me wanna run, run so far awa-a-ay...then I realize that that's all just a bunch of Bedbugs and Ballyhoo because older heads used to say the same shite to me back in the day...

nixne, you hit the nail--they are so reminiscent of the doors with those keys.

Echo and the Bunnymen will always hold a special place inside with me. They were heard in so many of John Hughes pictures from the 80's that its hard not to associate them with one or two films. They were a band I got into late, but after a few songs you get hooked. I own a lot of the soundtracks from the Hughes films, mostly because the music was something else back then. Although my tastes have changed over the years, bands like Echo and the Bunnymen will always have constant airplay on my stereo.

I hear you, crash and nixne. Wait, there's a meddling kid on my lawn RIGHT NOW! Mohawk and plaid pants with combat boots ... Has NOTHING changed?!!

I think my first exposure to E&tB was from "Urgh a Music War," in 1981 ... a movie which also exposed me to The Cramps and Gang of Four, among others that were already somewhat known at the time. "The Cutter" is one of my favorites, along with "Do It Clean."

_What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, "Look! This is something new"? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow._

Ecclesiastes 1

_So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past._

F. Scott Fitzgerald

_And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death_

Pink Floyd

And the beat goes on...

Deep into "Rescue" and "Never Stop" lately. They still sound so very fresh. (And then there's Mark Vidler's inspired, super-sick mash-up "Abba & the Bunnymen," melding "The Killing Moon" and "Voulez-Vous." Ah-yah!)
