MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Artist:
Track:

...Jimi Hendrix' Band of Gypsies and their self titled set which is a live recording from their legendary Fillmore, West gig holds a recording of three of Jimi Hendrix' tightest live solo performances with this outfit-- they can be found on dude's riffage on the first opening cut, "Who Knows", then "Machine Gun" and finally on "Power to Love"...mind you, his fret work on "Third Stone from the Sun", "Up from the Skies" and "I Don't Live Today" are top notch, he cut those with the Experience-- big diff, kid...

....On the Gypsies recording he's playing with Buddy Miles (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), whom some would argue weren't as technically astute as Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding (who backed him in the Experience in the same respective roles) and to some degree, they'd be right on-- but you can't deny the fact that when Buddy and Billy were at his back, Jimi got straight up funky- one really gets to hear the funkier stuff he threw into the mix for R&B recordings of Little Richard, the Isley Brothers and King Curtis in his early days; too bad the group only stayed together for a hot year before disbanding...all that being said, check this solo clip of Jimi ripping it on "Machine Gun" with the Gypsies...

I think I've said this before, but listening to Hendrix is an ethereal experience for me...there are no words to describe him. Ahhh..."Machine Gun." Anyone who was lucky enough to be present for those Band of Gypsies days is a lucky soul.

pimp, rent that again!

not to go on a kb rampage here, but I do remember the first time i heard hendrix, i mean REALLY listened to him. it shocked me and i remember being angry with my sister and my brother becasue they hadn't introduced me to him earllier. (they are both 3 and 5 years older and completely influenced my music tastes...) i do get to think deeply about Jimi every year because he died-- three years before--the day of my birthday.

sad that jimi left us so early...at least i was able to see Noel Redding play "Fire" with Phish on Groundhog Day 1993 at Roseland Ballroom!

"who are our modern day musicians playing political power cords?"kb; I'd say the Stripes or Oasis (kidding)...I don't even try to look at a band's politics anymore, honestly...I slapped that baby on yesterday...I think it was in my subconscious all along to do so...your post cinched it, D...I took it a step further with a visual...

hendrix just sounds so alien , no one can do that , no one could play like jimi. that album should be the Rock / Blues Geetarist Bible. Jimi's Orange Bible.......

This post delivers, Crash. Hendrix = wow. Band of Gypsies is 2nd to none. I echo RNRPimp's feeling on having every Hendrix DVD possible. I don't have them all, ....yet. Has anyone watched the Rainbow Bridge DVD ? It is funny stuff. A hippie movie with hendrix on the cover. But any Hendrix "Pali Gap" action for the win.
