MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: Fat Of The Land [PA]

...man, The Prodigy's Fat of the Land LP is one hella tight get-up-and-get-going album which is a microphany (what I call a tiny epiphany) that I just had...see, I got a grip of joints in my iTunes that I've bought on the fly and forgotten about and FOTL is one of those jams-- I had a copy of this album on CD back when it first came out in '97 (long before iTunes was such an ubiquitous part of my life) ...

...my ears started perking up long before the coffee beans kicked in as "Smack My Bitch Up" looped on up in my facial and started pimp-slappin me around the room, later "Diesel Power" (which reminds me of a modern version of Schooly D's hip hop classic, "PSK") Godzilla-stomps and double-pumps while Kool Keith drops a mighty cipher on the listener (I recall that this is a superb workout cut-- especially on legs/abs day)..."Funky Shit" still retains that "I am Morpheus" feel that made it such a hype (that loop from the TV show S.W.A.T. is phatter than the cuffs in Elvis' bell-bottomed jumpsuit, son)...other cuts that'll work on you include "Mindfields", "Narayan", "Firestarter" and "Climbatize"...(I was kinda non-plussed by "Fuel My Fire" but who's complaining, yo? Nine tight slices of niceness out of ten are tremendously acceptable odds; the beats are so sweet they'll make your teeth hurt...if you like your beats real big and kind of large, then Fat of the Land is a must-listen...now where in the hell is that copy of Music for the Jilted Genration?

hmmm maybe if I start listening to this CD again I'll have the motivation to work out...I haven't given Prodigy enough space in my head lately and I sure could use the jolt ;o)

I had that microphany a couple months ago myself. On a whim I listened to their latest, Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. I highly recommend that one.

Last week I had another microphany: Adrenaline by Deftones is beyond phenomenal.

And, yes, I love your word "microphany". Please excuse me whilst I borrow it. I promise I won't kill it.

Prodigy- Fat of the Land is one my all time favorite albums. It is great to work out to and drive to ;) Did they ever tour the U.S. back in the day? I wish I could have seen them live.
