A week or so ago I was lobbed a handful of Stereolab CDs to check and have been doing so in the interim...After getting re-introduced to their Dots and Loops LP, the hook was in me and I've been listening to their material at least once a day (this is great shite to check while sitting at your keyboard)...their sound's been described as "space-age bachelor pad pop" which I can kinda see and hear but I think there's more to this outfit than that...check this cut, "Wow and Flutter" from the Mars Audiac Quintet album which holds that cut "Ping Pong" which was kind of an international hit for the group and used in some commercials...despite the latter, it's still a good listen and good for what ails ya, son...

Is "Stereo Headphone Mind" in that handful? Great Piece. I've got a live set of theirs from 99 in ATL. Mad grooves when live. Good stuff. Thanks for refreshing my brain.

Ya know...this comes from their Amorphous Body EP, I've found, which I don't have on hand...I'll have to look it up....the LPs I'm checking are Dots & Loops, Mars Audiac Quintet, Microbe Hunters, Sound Dust, and Cobra and Phases Group...

I had to go and look up Cobra and Phases. I've been so out of the loops. I used to work for a teleconferencing company that handled many things, one of which was hooking up artists with journalists via telephony. One of those interview tours was with tim gane(sp?). A good friend fought for and won the task of "operator' for this particular session and cajoled Tim into a copy of SHM on cd. I've had a burn ever since. I don't know if both pieces (SHM and "Trippin' With the Birds") are on the comp you mention, but I'll track that info down, too. merci
