I love me some rock 'n roll, especially cuts from the mid to late 60s...sometimes it sounds best when you strip everything down and check the vocals (easily done in the studio) but if you're not availed of a mixing board (and can't travel back to '69), peep one of my favorite groups from that era, Crosby,Stills and Nash -- who got together and dusted off the cinders of the implosions that were Buffalo Springfield and The Hollies...when one door closes a window opens up somewhere...CS & N were one of those groups that had that "hum" in their vox that touches somewhere profound when they were hittin' all the cylinders in the sound booth or on a stage. The latter can be easily seen in footage from their hallmark performance at Woodstock (when I wasn't even a twinkle in my daddy's eyes yet)...I never got to check 'em live, and that ragtag trio of oldsters that are on the road these days can't hold a birthday candle to the act when their sideburns were thick and shaggy and the veneer of newness still clung to their output...thank goodness for recordings of cuts like "Marrakesh Express" and "Judy Blue Eyes" which can be found on their self-titled ...I've cut many a mid-day lab to hang out and,uh, pore over their tunes back in the dorm daze...still, while some things change, some things never will...

I love this album so much. I definitely go through cycles with it, though. If it's a foggy California morning, inscense burning, bring it on.

I love CSN - definitely one of my favorites of all time. I've seen them four times (once with Neil Young) since 2001, and, you know, I never got to see them in their heyday but they still put on a damn good show.
