The Simpsons Movie: Does Whatever a Special Episode Can (Review)

Posted almost 5 years ago
...I didn't cover this one for press, obviously and was going to wait a while for this one but today I had a couple of hours to kill AND I found one of those indie houses that charge 6 bucks for their new films if you go to a showing before six...it just so happened that it was 5:20...So the Simpson's full length movie is finally out and as one who has been along for the ride since Matt Groening's Life in Hell comic series; the squibily-drawn Tracy Ullman shorts..."*so I punked out and blinked*":http://chronicridicule.blogspot.com/2007/07/simpsons-movie-does-whatever-special.html ...here's a cut from Stiff Little Fingers, although they didn't play in the film, I like 'em better than Green Day who were...

  1. Mike the Knife says As I said in another thread, I thought it was very funny (especially the first half). But it leaned on a storyline, plot points and set-ups that are a little too familiar after 400 episodes of the series. No question though: Entertaining, smart and appropriately subversive.

  2. dermahrk says Ahhh, another "Life In Hell" fan. Excellent. Although The Simpsons will obviously be Groening's legacy, it's a shame that so many are unaware (including the goddamn syndicators) what an excellent cartoonist and writer he is on his own.

  3. steve simon says crash, how about a proper review of this? i can't wait to see it but at the same time scared to given my love for the old days of the simpson's, though occasionally matt still pulls off a decent one. loved life in hell too

  4. CrashPryor says @Mikey: word...I burst out laughing at the JFK/ Itchy 'n Scratchy montage... @dermahrk: as a kid I used to laugh and laugh...as an adult, I realized how dead on he was about the workplace...Bongo and Sheena the prototypes for Homer and Marge... @steve: I was going to but didn't want to give anything away/ point out any more of the obvious...since the TV show's alive and kicking, it pretty much sells itself...I got over 'em a few years ago (the TV show), though I check it from time to time when I can, there's been more cartoonish shite going on in real life...don't need good writers for this kind of crazy...hahaha...

  6. nicki says I think the movie is going to be a brilliant marketing device: we'll plunk down the moolah on the tix and the popcorn, laugh a little, pine for the old days, and then plunk down a lot more moolah for the early seasons on DVD. It's effing brill', I tell you.

  7. CrashPryor says @nicki: they even clown on the audience for paying to see "something they can watch on TV for free"...though you don't get to see Bart's "dangle" on the tube...or any of them cussing...small thrills but what the hey...worth the 6 bucks..any more and I would've been PISSED...
