...singer/songwriters aren't for everybody...hell, even when I get those press packs in the mail with that title suspiciously tucked somewhere in the verbiage I blanch involuntarily...but such was not always the case...and you know I like the old stuff...which brings me to the Knife's post of that "*Akon; Gerry Rafferty mash-up*":http://mog.com/Mike_the_Knife/blog_post/91348 which, in turn, made me think of the original cutting of "Baker Street" and how that sax-lick has stuck with me since I first heard the whole thing as a kid, in the early 80's, around the same time that I moved to a better neighborhood and became tight with this hippie's son who was also named Chris...although I was young, I distinctly remember that going over to C's house was always a blast...his mom had a kick-ass blues and Rock collection; was a hottie (hindsight 20/20, a MILF, fo' sho)... but I could never finagle it the way Otter did with Dean Wermer's wife in Animal House (I was wayyyy too young to pull up like that)...but I wasn't blind, either, yo...I digress...

...we used to sit in his den after school eating those big, rectangular Dyno-Mite cookies while listening to records...this is when I got turned on to Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark album which had back dropped in '74, I'd later recollect...I've found myself circling back to Joni over the years, especially since I've collected my very own sordid past to compare and contrast them with...I find that I'm feelin' tunes like "Car On a Hill" , "Just Like This Train", "Trouble Child" and "Down to You"...but I'm not too fond of "Raised on Robbery" anymore Robbie Robertson, or no...and I have to be in a mood for "Twisted" (read: have a few bricks in my hat)...when I check this LP now, I find myself skipping past the first, title track to begin listening at the track below...just like I used to with "Hot-Mom-Chris"...no shite, that's what we started calling him...
