The Intruders: Here's a Message for Your Mother

Posted over 2 years ago
...from the "You Only Get One Dept": I know Mother's Day has come and gone but it's still nice to kick a little respect...despite the slightly off key bits, the sentiment shines through and you'll hear "*The Intruders*":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Intruders at their finest-- I might add that it's best to cop one of their compilations like Cowboys to Girls because these guys' stuff was kind of sporadic, hit or miss if you like...all of that stated, this is another one of those Gamble & Huff joints from back in the day that "*I was speaking on last week*":http://mog.com/CrashPryor/blog_post/77114 ...tell your mom Crash said "wazzup": it might seem a tad treacly by today's standards, even 2Pac had to give his propers to the one who brought him into this world, I still say it's a stone jam...

  1. CrashPryor says ...about two years before the Save the Children LP dropped, these guys released the LP Cowboys to Girls which held a hit title track that would put The Sound of Philadelphia on the map and it is here that Gamble & Huff's use of heavy strings (like Phil Spector was doing already) to amp up their tunes with orchestral lushness on their productions...check this classic..."shoot 'em up, bang-bang"

  2. Rawkkiddoh says Gotta agree with you whole heartedly on this one crash. I feel like I dont tell my mom I love her enough, its amazing how much she did for my brothers and I, and you dont see it till you get older. I made her a cd last mothers day, and this one has to be one of my favorite mom your the best songs out there.

  3. Mike the Knife says Worthy sentiments aside, the break in the middle of "I'll Always Love My Mama," with that badass brass punctuation, is flat-out thrilling. Besides the bass line that pops through the Blue Notes' "Bad Luck," it's my favorite Gamble-Huff/Philly-I slice.

  4. mickimicki says Glorified suffering, self-sacrifying moms.... a double-edged sword I say... makes me feel awkward! Or is that because I only ever was a daughter? Maybe only sons really understand ;-) Anyway, Rawk, I think mothers know their kids love them... having to tell your loved ones how much you love them all the time seems to be an American thing... nothing wrong with it I guess, but your mother'll know anyway, especially since you turned out fine :-D

  5. chucky says I think I'm going to go pick this up and send it to my mom. Can anything really be too treacly when you're talking about your momma?

  6. CrashPryor says @CooP: That's a pretty tight selection I sometimes get caught up on what I'm doing and forget what the real dealio is but a tune like this can always snap me back to reality... @Mikey: "Luck's a nice cut" and really is one that will take you back if you were around back then (you know you've laid some phat tracks when Nikki Giovanni writes the opening foreward on your album)... @micki: I've heard similar sounds from females before and then when the subject comes to Daddies, the tables flip...though, I don't know of a man who'd be able to go through childbirth (from what I've heard, it's thousands of times more painful than a charlie horse)... @Charles: nicely put....touche...
