Joni Mitchell: Feelin, "California"

Posted over 2 years ago
...I've been running around this crazy-ass town all day, just got in and now, I'm alone with my thoughts...time for some Joni...this was what Tracy Chapman was tapping into on her first album....

  1. alev10 says love this song. certainly one of the only women who could make this high voice a pleasure to hear... (apparently even mac dre felt that way too and sampled her on a genie of the lamp track.)

  2. Cody B says I think this one would fall in the not overrated category. Have you heard the new tribute to she? How was it for you?

  3. Me and the Horse I Rode In On says From the first line "Sitting in a park in Paris, France" you just know that this a great song. I love that album. I am thankful for every Joni moment in my life. I've only heard Prince's version of "A Case of You" and I absolutely hate it. As if he does not like the song at all. I usually respect Prince but I don't understand what he's trying to do. I don't sense any emotion getting trough. I was really dissapointed. The sound was terrible too. I got rather upset. Felt that he was destroying this beautiful song.

  4. thill says Although I have tried to like Joni Mitchell I just cannot do it. California is one of the few songs I can take and even then when she hits that high pitched part I feel an urge to turn it off. My loss I guess.

  6. CrashPryor says @alev: yeah, those eyeglass-crackin' notes aren't for everybody or all times, but I was feelin' that album when I got in and the effect was soothing... @Cody: no I haven't absorbed that one yet, I downloaded it though @Horsey: yeah, sometimes you're in the mood for an acoustic story, this has been one of those times for me @theresa: yeah, like I said earlier, she-ain't for everyone, my lady doesn't cotton to her that much either....the old cookie/ cake conundrum @five-four: word. my little trip to Joni-ville was a bit impromptu, I just saw it and thoiught "yeah, that's where its at"...she went to some cool places during the Jaco years, he was young and full of fire...enjoy...

  9. Mike the Knife says Great minds, C.P. Got to say that I've had a bit of a Joni revival in the 'phones for the past month, and am continually thrilled when "Just Like This Train," "Court and Spark," "Free Man in Paris," "All I Want," and "This Flight Tonight" show in the rotation. Gorgeous all. As far as the tribute LP, I've only keyed on Annie Lennox's elegant, electro-washed "Ladies of the Canyon" (a voice and a melody so lovely that I buy, even embrace, the hippy-dippy lyrics) and Prince's "A Case of You," but they make me very happy.

  10. CrashPryor says @Mikey: Court and Spark! Su-weet...as I said, I haven't soaked up the trib LP just yet but I will say this: how can you go wrong with Annie Lennox, she truly is one of the great vocalists...all that soul straight outta Scotland...
