Augustus Pablo's Dub Music-- Breakfast of Champions

Posted over 2 years ago
...here's a little dub joint (!) to check while kicking it around the house today...it's an Augustus Pablo track called "Chant to King Selassie" which is the first cut off of his seminal dub album East of the River Nile which originally dropped back in '78 in the States...written when reggae music was reaching it's crest on the world stage, this album remains one of my all-time dub classics and, as such, I think it should be checked...click here for my "*full MOG review*":http://mog.com/CrashPryor/blog_post/18694

  2. Rawkkiddoh says Like Satchmo said, if you have to ask me, I can’t tells ya…but I can tell you this: Augustus Pablo’s East of the River Nile is quite possible the perfect dub reggae LP and it (too) should be in everyone’s music collection…now that is quite the endorsment

  3. Oatmeal says Upfull is me fave, great pick! I also recommend Rocker's Almighty Dub, although Augustus is the pre-eminent for instrumentation, and melodica of course.

  4. Pseudo Cyborg says MELODICA!!! I love mine. Got it in TJ a few years ago for $20. So ridiculous that they're so expensive here. This stuff is great! Getting further and further into Dub lately has really shown me how much of an influence its had on a lot of the music I listen to. Hell, I'm listening to some of my old tracks and current demos and you'd think I was heavily into Dub....

  5. Cody B says It is most certainly one of the dopest..I remember when I lived in Minneapolis and we had an outdoor party with my wedding DJ system (1600 Watts and humungous bass bins) that went til the sun came up. When it was rising I put this on. Being outside, with this playing, and the sky all orange, yeah, that was nice. Rewind!

  6. soulrocket says I always pictured this track as the official song for the Tour du France if they were cycling Jamaica. One of the most easy to digest Pablo’s instrumentals & a great one.

  7. Mike the Knife says With all due apologies to the masterful Bob Marley (whose singing and songwriting transcends genre... Other than Toots Hibbert, Augustus Pablo is why I love reggae. Mighty mighty, C.P.
