Championship Mogging#11-Because I Choose To?

Posted almost 5 years ago
...there's a scene in Matrix Revolutions, where the deviant Agent Smith is throwing a beating to a rain-drenched Neo. If you're unfamiliar with the storyline for whatvever reason, the Matrix trilogy, now considered by many to be simultaneously ground-breaking sci-fi and digitally-enhanced cinematic treacle is set in the not-so-distant future and the human race is at war with computers/ murderous programs who grow humans in cornfield-like rows of pods for generating biothermic energy which is converted into electricity (as the meat popsicles have scorched the skies in an attempt to keep the robots from generating solar heat)...Agent Smith, who insists on calling the story's pod-born main character Neo by his surname, is one of the bad guys... is one of them and he's kicking the shit out of the protagonist at one point and he semi-rhetorically asks his human adversary why he even continues to get up and fight...why does he rise everyday when he knows "inevitably" that he will get knocked on his ass at some point and while the rain pours in buckets down on his face (it's obvious he's in pain from getting slapped around) Neo simply replies: "because I choose to"......no matter what you choose to do with your day, be it working a shitty gig while you make your way toward something else more to your liking or studying or whatever, make sure you're at least heading somewhere that you eventually want to be...to quote my man Tracy Jordan's character on 30 Rock, "*Live every week LIKE IT'S SHARK WEEK"*...now get out there and get into it...but first do the robot to this Daft Punk jam, you're only (Human After All)...

  3. Anna says This may be my favourite post of yours. Your message is very important to me on many levels and for various reasons. Not to mention how much I appreciate the Matrix reference. Your point makes me feel a bit sad and enlightened at the same time. I love the feeling. Don't think I've gone all soft on you though! This is what is coming out of my speakers right now:

  4. mktackabery says I am DOWN WITH THIS POST. Postivity is where it's at. I am in charge of my destiny and I will get up every day and make my life into the glorious creation I wish it to be. Every day, it's my life, not yours, be-atch. No offense to anyone, but I'm the one who has to look in the mirror at the end of the day and answer the question, "was today worth what I went through?" Today, as I bask in the glow of some nice recognition for my website work (farrin.com won a best law firm website award from NC Lawyer's Weekly), I can smile inside, knowing that all that really matters is what I think of my work. and I think it's DAMNED GOOD. Get up!!

  5. atman says great post, as always, Crash. just got out of bed, I haven't even had my coffee yet, working on my second cigarette, but I got up off my ass and did the goddam robot. I can't believe you just made me do that.

  7. jenny says Every week like it's shark week...I have no idea what this means, and yet I find it strangely inspiring. Imagine if it were jellyfish week...not so motivating, eh?

  8. atman says jen, my first thought about "shark week" was about "jumping the shark" every week (if you know what that means). However now that I think about it, Discovery Channel had "shark week" a few months ago where just about every show was about sharks. You know, all dangerous and scary all the time because you're really pushing to the limit.

  10. CrashPryor says @Me&Horsey: ...word...and I quoth Andy Keidis on BloodSugarSexMagic: "I will bend before I break"... @Troy: you got it my man...hope you did the robot too... @Anna: cool beans little sis, sometimes you gotta will that shit as soon as you get up...otherwise you'll get bummed...I'm glad you hooked into the vibe I was feeling when I got up...did you do the robot? @michelle: kudos! "a positive anything beats a negative nothing" @rev: hahaha...reminds me of a joke I like to tell when I got a brick in my hat: "I'd take up jogging but I keep spilling my martini all over the place"...doing the robot early in the morning is better than tai chi sometimes... @Jen: yeah, what atman said-- try to live everyday like it's your last...I'm a Libra, so I've had my share of "jellyfish weeks"...I get a whole lot of nothing done...sometimes you've got to recharge the batteries...but then I get off my arse, do the robot and get on with my life...

  11. Me and the Horse I Rode In On says I have to agree with the others. I felt a bit happy and a bit sad. I think I actually told my wife about this damn guy at mog who makes me feel guilty for not being Jaws all day long. Sharks rest too!!! You're a good man!

  15. CrashPryor says @michelle: I say why not? "MOG: Where EVERY Week is Shark Week" @Horsey: "Only I look twice as ignorant with a smile twice as stupid." hahaa....that's not humanly possible... @ Stottle:..agreed but I think this track served the thrust of what I was saying...may the force be with you...after you do the robot, that is...

  17. Mike the Knife says Amen to every bit of that, C.P. (including the slice of daft punk). And all hail Tracy Jordan - the idiot savant of Rockefeller Center! (Only Astronaut Jones is a better T. Morgan creation...)

  18. Marco1019 says Another post that's on point. It's what finally got me out here. This track is the one I really listen to from _Human After All_. My heart will always be with _Homework_, especially after seeing Daft Punk back in 1997 (along with Armand Van Helden, Roger Sanchez, and Liquid Todd...that was a night and a half).
