....a little bird from up in Sacramento shot me a message yesterday telling me that at the stroke of midnight it would be National Shutdown Day which is, for all intents and purposes, an agreement to go off the grid, get up, get into it and get involved IRL-- a day with no computer-tainted experiences...
...I thought long and hard about what the necessity for a day like this suggests and found it to be alarming-- that it's gotten so bad that it's actually considered on the serious tip. Too, as if following some digital cue issued by said little birdie mentioned above, my DSL modem (that I bought with a 1 year warranty from my ISP when I switched to it last year) unceremoniously bought the farm in the wee hours yesterday and I've since learned that I have to buy a new one (my warranty expired in January-- I'll raise a toast to planned obsolesence)...I thanked my stars that I can go wireless on my MacBook or would I? continued

Yeah! Buzzing on some oat sodas, with the keyboards out of reach. Living the dream - while right next to us, some guy is texting on his 'berry. Oh well.

I never felt a need to be on everyday. Before MOG my time on the computer was minimal. While I would say I have an addiction when it comes to MOG, browsing the net for hours on end is not something I need to do. I can not wait for put away your cell phone day. To me seeing someone go a day with out using their phone would be much more impressive than going a day with out the internet

Diddo Rawkkiddo, I'm always reminded of Eleanor Rigby when I see people on their phones everywhere all the time.

Thanks for the Harry Chapin video, Crash. Life is just too busy and it seems I spend too much time thinking about work. I don't think it is the cell phone or the internet that is the problem. This week is the 17th anniversary of my father's death and the video really awakens me to not let the time slip by. I think my father and my brother were stuck in the traffic on the LIE behind the traffic caused by Chapin's fatal car crash 25 or so years ago. I like his comment in the video that the words scare him. Thanks again. BTW I also like Father and Son by Cat Stevens but the Chapin song is far more haunting.
