...yeah, thats a snap of the storied Whisky that I took the other day. It's where bands like Love, Led Zeppelin, the Doors and Janice Joplin niced it up back in the 60s...I've been there once in the ten years that I've lived here as the bands that are regularly on stage never really did anything for me...oddly, when I lived back in NYC I went to CBGBs on the regs but whatever's clever, yo...although people all over the world know tons about the LZ's and Joplin's contributions to the 60s-era rock canon, not a lot of hipsters have swung with Love who were a huge draw at the Whisky when they were breaking on through to the other side on it's stage just before Jim, Ray, Robbie and John picked up the baton and ran with it, peep the album cover......here's Love performing "Alone Again Or" last September..."*Forever Changes LP*":http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=76717 on which the tune can be found is a really sweet album if you're into checking out where a lot of bands that blew up later on the LA scene were influenced by...this particular Whisky band were wayyy ahead of their time...I wish I could've caught 'em back in the day...check the video:

Most requested "obscure" Band from that era , except maybe "Atomic Rooster", at least at the Ol' Reckord Shoppes....and if you like Sabbath and Led Zep - gotta know who Atomic are , just like Joy Division and Interpol fans need :Love" - no pun intended but its kind of funny...nice post CP...
this is from '71' T.O.T.P

Not only is "Forever Changes" an absolutely crucial album, there's also a very, very fine live version of "Forever Changes" done in its entirety several years ago with Arthur Lee and a Scandinavian band plus orchestra (kind of in the same spirit as the Brian Wilson "Smile" CD). If you dig the first, you'll dig the second.

It is so nice to see The Whisky looking just as it did in 70s. As it did in the 60s. I bet it still has the red banquettes.
Love weren't ahead of their time - we were just a few steps behind. The other essential Love album is Da Capo.

Love is absolutely one of my all-times, and "Forever Changes" was their masterwork. (Their Rhino anthology "Love Story" - with all of their most wonderful tracks - is a must.) Really sorry that Arthur Lee left this plane of being, but happy that I caught him playing the Fillmore a couple of years ago.

Nice one, Crashy-P...and god bless Arthur Lee!
I caught the Love revival express as many times as I could (4 shows total, if I can boast a bit: "Forever Changes" Live at UCLA in early 2003...a Knitting Factory benefit maybe a year later...Sunset Junction, late summer '04...then lastly a double-bill with The Zombies in about November '04).
Arthur even kindly signed all 3 of the classic Love CDs for me, and they're now the absoulte jewels of my collection. RIP Mista Lee! We LOVE ya.
