...I'm checking the Ventures' Best of "*Walk Don't Run*":http://www.thestore24.com/Music/Album.aspx?p_id=P+++++5756&a_id=R++++21205&PersonID=P%20%20%20%20%205756&prodid=CAP93451.2&si=rhino while I do a little editing...they were a funky lot, if you can dig on the "surf guitar" sound re-popularized in Pulp Fiction in addition to the title cut there's phatties on it like "Perfidia", "Yellow Jacket", "Spudnik (Surf Rider)" , "Hawaii 5 - 0" and "The 2,000 Pound Bee" ...the only thing missing is "Apache"...

Love me some surf. Love the Ventures a lot too. Personally out of all the Apache versions I know I like Michael Viner's Incredible Bongo Band version best. If it weren't for that song there would be a small hole in old school rap.

Surf's up! As much as I revere the surf sound and the Twangy Guitar and the Ventures, their arrangements and performances are often so geometric and precise that they can border on stiff. Still, I'm hangin' ten.

Somewhere in my top bands of all time is Radio Birdman.... their main influences? Iggy & The Stooges/MC5, BOC and... The Ventures... for that alone I have to give them a thanks... add to that the fact that they wrote some killer instro tunes....
for some reason I thought that The Shadows did the 'hit' version of Apache..

So... why don't me make a joint effort and collect as many versions of Apache as we can. (And probably some nerd out there in the internets has already made an exhaustive list that just waits to be googled...)
