Oh my. I stopped eating meat because of this album... in 1984, if I remember correctly... so I guess it has changed my life... because I'm _still_ a veggie-veggie. - And I still lilke the album.

Hmmm. Very interesting. MickiMicki, I guess I need to check out the lyrics and the rest of the music on this album if it affected you so profoundly.

I think I could live without beef and chicken. I might miss salmon, though. I've done the vegetarian thing before, for a few months, and it wasn't a big deal once I got into the habit.

Strange thing: three weeks ago, if someone had asked me to go vegetarian for a day, I would have laughed them to scorn. After changing my eating habits, completely, I could actually see managing it. Maybe not completely; I still like my cereal with milk in the morning. Otherwise, I could get by with peanuts and beans for protein.

As it happens, I used to use a "How Soon Is Now?"/"Hippy Chick" segue as a way to bridge from alt to hip-hop when I was a club DJ. Perfect subterfuge.

3 songs forever linked in my mind:
How Soon is Now, the Smiths
She Sells Sanctuary, the Cult
Skin Deep, the Stranglers
I love them, each and every one.
They're all kind of dark and seemed so subversive in, what was it, 1985?

"Meat is Murder" was written up as graffiti near Hawthorn station for more than ten years. Perhaps the writer was a fan of The Smiths and so were the people who usually clean graffiti up, but I found it strangely reassuring to see it there every day.
