Bless the BBC: The Beat on Top of the Pops - 1980

Posted over 2 years ago
...three of my dream gigs, if I could go back in time, would be to work for Atlantic Records around the time they got Big Joe Turner - through the Aretha/ Coltrane years and right on up to the days of Led Zeppelin...another is working at Island when Chris Blackwell had signed the the Wailers and then the Slits and up to when he had just grabbed U2 would've been tight...thirdly working at the BeeB studios circa 1975 and into the 80s...man, case in point: seeing a band like the English Beat nice it up...

  2. Iren says I would have liked to be a writer for Rip Magazine for it's whole run.... ditto Trouser Press... maybe be a producer for Enigma/ Restless records in the 80's.... in daydreams I would like to think that being the security staff manager for MTV would be something that I would love to do every day.... but I know better....

  4. SamTheButcher says I'd really like to see a whole live show of the Beat from that era. I remember finding an old Red Rocks schedule with the Beat on there and just KICKING myself...that I didn't know anything about them then. :) The Beat...and that first GenPub album. Great stuff.

  5. jenipop says Excellent post. And speaking of fond labels I would have liked to helm, in some capacity, if only:

  6. Dale says I'd be up for shadowing Martin Hannett during the glory days at Factory, but then again, you know how I roll. And I also miss music that gives the saxophone a place.
