MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

Belle & Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister LP is a sweet "while-you're-sipping-coffee-at-work" kind of album- I highly recommend it to my friends who spend lots of their time in front of a keyboard...I got a cup of joe; a little work to do, so I'm all over it right about now...check this (kinda grainy) live video for "Seeing Other People"

...if you're down, "Mayfly" (from the same session) ain't too shabby either...

Thanks CP, I'm just discovering Belle & Sebastian and I'm pretty much liking what I hear.

Is it just me or does

1. the melody of "Seeing Other People", especially the beginning, remind you of a Peanuts special?

and

2. their style remind you a bit of the Gin Blossoms?

...hmmm, I'll have to dig up some GBs and get back to you...you should definitely check out B&S' early stuff, if you like this...BTW if you watched Hi Fidelity, that "Sad Bastard Song" that was playing when Jack Black walked in and slapped on Katrina and the Waves was Belle's "Seymour Stein" from The Boy with the Arab Strap album which is another good listen, in my book.

Yeah..I"m pro'lly going to be shot for this..but..uhh..I haven't seen Hi Fidelity yet. AJ made me the happiest person today by letting me know the Gin Blossoms are back together, I picked up their new album today and so far am totally loving it. I don't think B&S' voices are anything close to Robin Wilson but the styling is there. Its the first band that came to my mind when I first heard B&S.

Seeing Other People is by far my favorite Belle & Sebastian song. I can listen to it over and over. In fact the entire album If You're Feeling Sinister really is pretty awesome. Tigermilk is pretty good as well. But I would definately recommend checking out Dear Catastrophe Waitress. It has this sound to it reminisent of early beatles mixed with grerat lyrics. Step Into My Office Baby and Stay Loose are my personal favorites. The great thing about Belle & Sebastian is that they have an album for pretty much any mood you could be in. Check them all out!

Belle and Sebastian is just plain incredible Something people might want to also check out is their For Fans Only disc. Its a DVD of their videos and live performances. It is eaqually as good to listen to while working, and you can take a break and watch some of their performanced if the work gets to be too much. I was always a fan of Isobel Cambell, and her project, The Gentle Waves, is something to check out as well.

I've got a strange 3-song limit with B&S. If I hear up to three of their songs, I like them. More than three at a time, and I start violently hating them. I've never figured out why.

To add further confusion to this pleasantly cacophonous thread, allow me to suggest "Push Barman To Open Old Wounds." It's a two-disc-er of their collected EPs and has, to me, their second greatest song (after "Seeing Other People"), "I'm Waking Up To Us."

Wow, thanks for the suggestions. Thanks CP for getting the ball rolling! I'm definitely going to check those songs/albums.

kat - Yep, AJ told me yesteday they got back together. They disbanded in '97 and Robin Wilson formed Gas Giants but apparently they got back together in '03 sans the member that passed away. Their new CD is called "Moter Lodge Victory" and although I've only listened to half so far, I'm totally loving it!

sweet - hopefully I'll get around to checking it out soon...GB were quite poppy, but I always got into it.
