
...I've been working on this side project for this sweet ass Elektra Records box set called "Forever Changing: The Golden Age of Elektra Records-- 1963 to 1973":http://rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=74746&si=rhino which streets today and chronicles the inroads that the label's founder Jac Holzman made during his 10-year tenure at the helm of the little label that could...more on this later...while listening to all the singer songwriters on this collection I got re-introduced to one of my faves, Jackson Browne, who I don't think gets nearly enough dap for paving the way for "storytellers" like Bruce Springsteen...whatever...when I haven't been working on other shite, I've found myself checking Browne's classics on "a pretty sweet Best of LP":http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=78091&si=rhino since all of those "Hot" radio stations have overrun the perimeter in musicland (why I no longer listen to broadcast radio for my tunes) it's rare to hear deep cuts from artists of Jackson's ilk...sure this set contains Browne staples like "Doctor My Eyes", "The Pretender", "Running on Empty", "Tender is the Night" and "Lawyers in Love" but you'll also find shite like "Before the Deluge" and "Looking East"...while the handle singer-songwriter, might induce projectile-kvetching in some, if you open your ears, JB can be a refreshing AOR change of pace...
