...Funky Friday: It's Just an Illusion...Ain't It???

Posted over 2 years ago
..seh hello to my leetle 'fren...I haven't done the Funky Friday thing in a grip...I was sitting at my desk, eating a bagel and I thought of this tune from the group Imagination...a couple of weeks ago "*RayGun hooked me up*":http://mog.com/superaygun/blog_post/108493 with a Giorgio Moroder track I'd all but forgotten about, some Wall of Voodoo...and this joint...this shite dropped wayyyyyy back in '82 on the MCA label but, as I've said more than thrice, you can't fake the funk...it makes me wanna put on my Tony Montana suit and start struttin' around the office...but I won't...I'm no Al Pacino...I'll just do the robot with the headphones on instead...feel free to join me...

  6. CrashPryor says @Popeye: I first saw that movie on the late-late-late-night-Owl TV...I remember, what a funky track for a film like this which I dug for other reasons...but maybe it was the Grepsi speaking.. @TP: Oh, don't worry son..time always wins...can't beat the clock...hard to believe I'll be double 23 and a half next month...where in the fuck did all that time go...oh yeah...roight... @RayGun: haha...it's all butter, when you hinted at that Moroder cut via an old Kraftwerk post, I knew you were good peoples...thanks again for the trackage...

  7. ivylander says Crikey, CP, I'm spinnin' from the trip in the Way Back Machine. Back in Manhattan, clubbing with not-yet-Mrs. Ivylander, making mix tapes (when they really were tapes) for some moderately funky parties....ah, those were the days....

  8. CrashPryor says @ivy: I was just a crumb-snatcher when this shite dropped...luckily I had hip aunts 'n uncles (who were like big brothers and sisters) that would throw rent/ basement parties whenever my grandmother let her guard down and went out of town or worked a double shift...thing I won't miss about cassette tapes: having to channel the vibe of the party hours/ days before said event...nothing stank more than if a tape wasn't primed and a new one sought...that brought back some memories, son...that mural that would be displayed at the end of an episode of Good Times comes to mind...

  13. ivylander says Stormin' track, CP. The chune I always mentally pair with "Just An Illusion" (just tried to find it lucklessly) is Odyssey's "Inside Out." Same era, same fusion of smooth and heartfelt.
