The trio appears to be at the top of their form when they get to build out their ideas with cuts like the moogy "Because of the Weather" or the metronome swinging "Time" or even the bunny hopping "Winter Song." This is not an LP for beat-freaks and although there are catchy rhythmic moments all over the place, these guys don't stand on ceremony with syncopated overkill. Instead, Mayonnaise leans more towards the melodic side of the spectrum and they don't lay it on too thick (couldn't resist that pun). As Atlantic Records' late great mix master Tom Dowd once said: "It's not always what you hear in the mix that makes music sound great, sometimes it's what you don't."
