Although I find it tough to stomach a lot of the hip hop swirling around the sonic toilet bowl these days (I'm an old-school head) I'll waver a tad to pull your coat about Dälek's LP Absence which begins with the cut "Distorted Prose" that starts off with an acapella flow that soons turns on the listener with a snarl and then all of a sudden the music moon stomps up in your grill-piece like Godzilla in downtown Tokyo. The LP continues in this fashion until the very end and only takes a breather on the instrumental "Koner" that seems to emanate from the power core of the Death Star. Laced with a dark-ass feel throughout, you'll have to be in a "mood" to fully absorb it. The Dälek crew drive their message home over sick-ass DJ slicing and densely layered Texas chain saw distortion on this, hip hop's antithesis to speed metal. There's nothing about this set that can be construed as selling out to anyone which will make "Absence":http://www.thestore24.com/Music/Album.aspx?p_id=P+++350421&a_id=R+++704770&PersonID=P%20%20%20350421&prodid=IPEC56.2&si=rhino a challenge for the unprepared. That said, if you're into hearing what the road less traveled might sound like, then this bud's definitely for you.
