WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

#1: Introductions all around, followed by Rice Krispie squares.

Hey everyone. I'm new to this MOG world, and I hope you accept me like you would any other MOGger. How'd I end here? My friend, Ivy told me about this site, and what it consisted of. It sounded exactly like the kind of community site that I would want to be a part of. If MySpace is the FYE or Tower Records of the internet, then this is that wonderful side-entrance dive record store that I would frequent. Let's go with a name like "Disc-Connection" or "The Spin Zone" for this analogy.I'd like to believe my musical taste is really diverse, I'm all over the map. I don't restrict myself to one genre, and wear it on my sleeve. Currently, and for the last few years, I've been a huge Joanna Newsom fan. She's #1 in my book.I fear for the day one of her songs appears on an Apple iGadget commercial, and everybody and their mom knows about her. She's a wonderful musical secret that I hope continues to hide from mainstream awareness. Her second album Y's is one of my favorite albums of all time. It's just wonderfully written lyrically and musically. Each song clocks in at almost over 9 minutes long. Each telling a story of their own. The album has a theatrical and epic feel to it. When the climax arrives, you're just blown away. Bjork & JoannaI would have never thought that I would get into a harpist before, but Joanna is something special. Musically and lyrically I've never heard a combination quite like this. I can't wait for her third album. For now, I will leave it at that for the first post.

  1. captheoldtimes says Yay welcome to mog! And yes, Joanna Newsom is quite amazing; Sawdust and Diamonds and Emily are probably my favorites at the moment. Have you seen her live yet?

  2. CorbinD says Yeah, I saw her the last time she was around. It was great. I wish I could've seen her at the BAM with the orchestra, but tickets sold out pretty fast.

  4. CorbinD says Haha Thanks. It's funny you should say that, with the weather being really nice here today for the first time this Spring (70 degrees, WOO!) I've been driving around to Sadie, Bridges & Balloons, and the rest of Milk Eyed Mender to welcome in the Spring.
