Sometimes Stardom Finds You...

...I was an extra on a movie set yesterday. So if you you recall my recent musings about Sunday mornings, which I was typing out on my laptop while drinking some spiced chai tea in a cafe/foodcourt, I was just finishing up enjoying the morning (as campus was becoming more and more busy) when I was approached by a tall guy accompanied by a bloody-armed and faced girl wearing a tattered shirt. Despite the blood she was smiling happily. It was fake blood. Pretty realistic looking though... Well, my first thought was that Halloween was last month, but the guy quickly began explaining that they were shoting a movie nearby and were desperately in need of extras. Wow, that was an unexpected request. So I thought about it for a couple seconds. I had no plans, nor was I being very productive at the moment. Sure, why not. I'll go run out of a building terrified as if a bomb had just gone off.So I get to the set and learn more about the people that just randomly recruited me to be an extra in their film. They were independant filmmakers and were also students of my University. So I wait around with the other extras and a few of the lead cast members while the crew prepares for different scenes. This one girl had a rather intense, shockingly realistic fake burn gash in her side. The make-up girl was ridiculously good at making wounds. Anyways, I was called out for three different scenes. The most exciting of which had me running out the the building just after the bomb goes off. As I'm running, one of the main cast is running towards the building, grabs me by the shirt, yells "What's going on?!" at me, I stutter and fail to answer promptly, he loses patience and decks me, I fall to the ground, my hat flies off, and then I get back up and continue running away. I was not familiar enough with the plot to know why he punched me exactly, hah.An extra yesterday, Hollywood tomorrow? If only life was so easy...Presenting Okkervil River in _The Stage Names_:
