The Honeydogs.

According to iTunes, their debut album came out back in 1995. They are now on their seventh album, entitled Amygdala. This means that, somehow, this extraordinary band flew under the radar (or at least my radar?) for six albums and is still almost unheard of on their seventh! Seven! My goodness. Amygdala (pronounced "uh-mig-duh-luh" I assume?) is defined as "an almond-shaped group of neurons located in the medial temporal lobe of the brain. Believed to play a key role in emotions, such as fear and pleasure, in animals and humans."

It would appear that they have a thing for changing record labels with each new release, as well. At one time they were even on a major record label, touring with INXS (right before Michael Hutchence's death, in fact). Either the label did not promote them well, or they were simply doomed by the explosion of boy bands (ick), hip-hip/rap (yuck), and for-the-most-part-bad "punk" bands (Blink is classic, however) that were beginning to dominate mainstream culture around that time. For more on the band, just check out their official website bio.

Ok, so here's a track from Honeydogs' latest release, the only one of their albums which can be found on iTunes. Elan Vital - last track on Amygdala - is a solid, catchy, festive tune with elements of pop-rock and jazz fused together. The wispy chorus adds that final touch, which somehow makes the song relaxing amidst all of the festivities.
