this band is one of my all time favorites, which is probably why they broke up. This is definitely their opus. Their other albums are great too. witty lyrics and poppy beats with random time signatures, its fun which music should. if you have seen this band live you are fucking lucky! i saw them twice, and their musicianship is amazing. EVERYONE IS DOING THE STANDING STILL!

This album is the shit, one of the only pop punk albums to hold up to the test of time. I just repurchased this album and i must say it still kicks my ass!

I did see them live at the Troubadour in Hollywood and they were good. Emergency & I is very much their strongest record and they did many of the songs from it. My favorite thing about them is the tunes that sneak up on you even on serious rave-ups like "Girl O'Clock" (probably my favorite song of theirs).
I'm going to have to completely agree with you. Bands I LOVE are doomed to fail. But lucky you! I never got to see them live and they're by far, the one (contemporary) band that I would give just about anything to see. Le sigh. It's always comforting to know that there are people out there who still mourn their break-up.
And I'm gonna have to disagree with the previous comment. The Dismemberment Plan is Terrified is pretty friggen good and my favorite over Emergeny & I, though also, veeeeery good.
