Composing at its best..
Once every few months I like to have a Carl Stalling day. There’s a few great collections of his work. Andrew (mandlebars) posted this first video on my myspace a week back, and it got me in the mood again.
I’m so fascinated at how he made this work. The opening track to the first collection “Music from Warner Bros. Cartoons 1936-1958†has a great opening showing some of the thought behind these recordings. They go over the first main line 4 times. Now I cannot hear a difference between any of these takes, but he always finds something. The musicianship on these is amazing as well. The tempo changes that they flow through are insane, and keeping an entire orchestra like that together…. Never though I would enjoy listening to 2 hours of cartoon music, but stranger things have happened!
