MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Album: American Gypsy
Track:
(84)

In 1975 the mighty Chess records was on it's last legs. They did take the time to issue this American expatriate in Holland record though, which has become a fave on the groove scene. I don't know why Chess did it, but I'm glad they did. If you like Gil Scott-Heron, Terry Callier, or Spearhead this should be for you. A little politics, a little jazz, a little funk. There's one other cut,Golden Ring, on the self titled LP, but Inside Out is THE CUT. If you don't like long intros, you won't like this song. You get 1 minute of symphonic grooviness, followed by another minute of just plain grooviness (slaying drums and bass), before the vocals kick. But hey it was '75. Hope ya dig.

Sonorous, and that's the highest praise I can offer - appreciate every glorious moment of this track and all its elements (intro, vocals, bass, drums, gritty funk vibe), and 'symphonic grooviness' is a perfect descriptor! Is the album impossible to find or acquire?

Sounds so Blaxploitation movie score at first, then it goes deeper and deeper. It's a wowser.

Somebody sampled some parts of the track or did a complete remake of this, so I first thought I would know it, but then ... nope. Maybe Freakpower? Just a very vague shot. No, must have been something different. But this thing grooves for sure. Thanks for that Cody.
