ksiglutz, If you liked Headhunters, Check out Sextant (1972), too, for more afro-funk rhythms w/Herbie. More importantly seek out the same musicians minus Herbie on The Headhunters-Survival of the Fittest (1975). This space-funk-fusion slammer features the awesome breakbeat-vocal freakout, "God make me funky," which has been sampled by Alex Cortiz’s “Room 505” Biz Markie’s “Albee Square Mall” Common’s “Pitchin' Pennies” De la Soul’s “Pease Porridge” De la Soul’s “Take it Off” Digital Underground’s “Underwater Rimes” Downtown Science’s “Down to a Science” Dragonfly’s “Angeldust” Eric B and Rakim’s “Beats for the Listeners” Eric B and Rakim’s “To the Listeners” Fugees’s “Ready or Not” Jungle Brothers’s “Braggin' and Boastin'” King Sun’s “On the Club Tip” Low Profile’s “No Mercy” Marky Mark’s “Wildside” Mission’s “Last Night” NWA’s “Approach to Danger” Quiet Boys’s “Never Change” R.P.M.’s “Food for the De-Rhythm” Slum Village’s “Go Ladies” Slum Village’s “Intro” Steady B’s “Bring the Beat Back” Sway & King Tech’s “?” Tony D’s “Check the Elevation” UNKLE’s “If You Find the Earth Boring” UNKLE’s “Sassafras” X-Ecutioners’s “The Countdown”

That's an amazing site. Thank you.

Nice. Very nice. But you shoulda mentioned a few more things about SURVIVAL OF THE FITEST. Great lost funk/rock/groove slab of vinyl. A rhythm section of controlled cool chaos an' chops you can shave with. This was the REAL thing, straight, no chaser. If they only had a lyricist!

You are right..deadmanx2, but I didn't want to scare a young, potential herbie-ophile away with anything too hyperbolic, syllasabic, or sesquedalymitic.

Step away from the thesaurus. Take a deep breath. An' ya mis-spelled sasquash. (Please don't explain.....I've been a fan of Norm Crosby for yrs.)

Survival of the Fittest is out there, with some very freaky parts, but the rhythm section does groove in first rate style. On the Herbie tip, though, don't miss his 60's Blue Note stuff. Not necessairily funky, but on the real jazz tip.
