First off check out this fine female raw funk from Madrid, courtesy of the mighty, mighty and missed soulrocket.
There was an excellent (for music geeks such as myself) discussion over at â–º davesonic's place â—„ about digital gluttony, so I did a little self-searching and found out I am a glutton.
If you have a mind to, feel free to throw up any of your listening stats.
Here's mine..disgusting really.. My current itunes counts started 9/20/2007, when I got a new computer. I put about 50,000 tracks in the HD from my CD collection and I've added another 20,000 since then..My last.fm sez I've played 38,000 songs..My itunes sez I've listened to 13,000 or so unique songs (15 is my highest play count for any one song) since 9/20 (this includes my wifes ipod,I don't have one)..I also play Cd's in the house and car that aren't tracked. Looks like I have 58,000 songs to listen to hit 'em all. Of course some of these, like Motown Box Sets, I listened to on the stereo, but it is altogether possible, I have at least 50,000 suprises in my future..

Glenn Gould in your top 20. You go, Glenn Gould! Not sure I'd even know how to begin to track my stats. Don't think I'm a glutton though, for one thing I'm not really a collector, don't own that much, trade old tired stuff for new (to me) cds. Interesting post..

I'm tempted to say you have very narrow music tastes. :-D
I could never count the tracks, but there's about 3,000 LPs, 500 45s, over 1000 CDs, about 300 cassettes and just over 300 Gb on disc. This "gluttony" guilt trip is just another symptom of the old-skool music business thinking. I don't have to listen to everything I have -- it's enough to know that it will be there should I want to hear it sometime in the next 30 years.

guees I think that living in the digital age if I want to hear something 15 years down the line it's a peice of cake to lay hands on it so I don't have to turn my house / computer into a music warehouse. Not to sound like some kind of puritan, but I do think there's some moral value in cultivating the idea of "enough" that something is and that we can recognize that threshhold: "I'm full; I've had enough, so let me push back from the table." Cody B, thanks for the link. Great reading and conversation even for no-music geeks like me.

1. James Brown - 612
?
That's a lot 'feelin good ya'll"

Sturg- When I saw it, I said only 612..I truly, truly love the GFOS..I will keep playin him until I feel as good as he did. But Parliament and Funkadelic together beat out JB, so you know where my bread is buttered for real.
Jonh- I don't really feel like a glutton..I do look like one though. Amongst folks in (or formerly in) the music biz I know, I'm somewhere in the middle in terms of amount of music I have. Don't get me wrong though..I gotta have it. I guess I prefer junkie to glutton.
RUN-OBO: I've had to have it since 1982..When I put those 50K tracks in the HD, I was at the low point in my collection..In '88 I moved and had to dump 5,000 pieces of vinyl and another 1,000 in '98..Please don't put me in the stocks..

Cody, you are a 'audiophile' not a junkie.
You have me beat x 2 with the digital stuff and I know you put me to shame with the vinyl treasure you got stored.
Knowing you this list isn't outta line.
I have seen the "Wall of Sound" and it is a beautiful thing.

I really dig this track. Get over to Danny's other M site. He said he would be lurking.

I don't count that stuff at all, wouldn't even know where to look. But I'm willing to bet you've beaten me handily.
Glenn Gould? Never heard of him. Turn me on, brotha. Judging from almost all the other artists in that list, I'd say it's a safe bet I'm going to like him.

Cody, you know it's becoming a monkey on your back when you seriously start thinking about buying a separate house just for the records.

I'm not as obsessive as I look..These stats come directly from itunes and last.fm. It's not like I really keep track of all this ☺☺☺
Jonh, I think it is a countable amount of music biz folks in NYC that use storage places to hold their music..Then again there are all those great (but small) NYC appartments with music and books stacked floor to ceiling..that kind of clutter, I can live with. Not at my house, but it is cool to see.
Scotch, â–º Glenn Gould is a Canadian pianist/composer â—„ with a lot of short pieces! He was a very eccentric (some might say crazy)..I knew him from a 1993 indie film called 32 Short Films About Glenn Gould, but the music came to my hard drive through my wife. She is the classical fan in the house. I don't turn it off when it comes on in the shuffle..sometimes I turn the shuffle off when it comes on.. The film is interesting whether you like classical music or not..In '93 when I saw it, he seemed to be bringing an almost jazz-like spirit of improvisation to Bach. I tried to Netflix the film today and it isn't available. It is, of course, on youtube, here's 1 of 32

Memphis Minnie at #6? you are too cool.
so i see play counts per track on my iTunes, how'd you count per artist?
my counts started at New Year's Day week because an I.T. guy screwed up my laptop and had to reinstall XP. #1 is Ceremony by New Order.

Per artist counts come from last fm...They keep good chart over there. I guess I went on a Minnie jag last year, and when I go on a Minnie jag..watch out.

Well, here is mine. Damn, I’m not nearly as funky as I thought…
In defense – this is what I play on the PC. I don’t have a slingbox or a sonos or anything, so I definitely tend towards less distracting stuff here at the desk.
I have a LOT of stuff on CD and not on the braniac PC.
I’ll tell you what though - I’m uppin my Memphis Minnie playcount bigtime cuz she rocks. Sometimes all this OCD stuff pays off.

Hi Cody. Long time no MOG. I must your gluttony is all but sweet and nutritious. I've checked and I seem to listen to most songs 2 or 3 times at most. I'm a more anal person with my CDs.

Interesting stuff about Glenn Gould. Not sure he's gonna be added to the collection any time soon, though.
I've seen some interesting things show up on the MOG-O-MATIC lists as it pertains to me. There have been tracks showing up as recently listened to, or often listened to, that I haven't heard in months. Lists are bunk. heh
