While the "coalition" has been scouring the world looking for evil doers, a few things have been missed..Osama and Weapons Of Mass Destruction being the first that come to mind. What is little known, though, is that during the war, while turning every stone for terrorists, some incredible Funk has been found, in places you might not expect.

I'm not a general so I won't speculate on how the War on Terror is going, but in the Search for Funk, coalition forces most definitely have earned this..Mission Accomplished.

Check out Kombi from Poland here, Please also see, The Apples from Israel doing Freak Afrique, and the funky French/Vietnamese stylings of Onra in Comments.

Oh, you don't have to be a general to opine on how the war on terror is going. Why listen to the generals when you can get all the information you need from musicians who've never even seen a gun? Or voted?

I must say I am not used to funk sung in Polish. I picture them on stage falling all over each other. Which one is the Israeli funk? I listened for Palestinian rockets but couldn't hear any..

Onra is fascinating - it's nice to hear the local influence in the funk.

poe, the Apples sound like they'd be more fun live..the records are all over the place, funk,jungle,rap,rock..The Polish funk comp Kombi was on is a lot like other Eastern European "funk" comps, leaning to jazz and lounge, not bad..but Kombi was the closest to funk as I know it.

Jonh,I'd love to hear some Wu-Tang'ers rap over Onra's beats. I think that Onra record should be up for some kind of editing award..loved the local flavor.

I have to admit Hermes, I took all of these from the blog-o-sphere..

Mark, after spending some time in Tel Aviv last summer, I can say, that in that Big City there is a sort of denial of the threat they might be under. Things go on as usual, as the folks are determined to proceede like nothing is wrong. It seems to me we have more (outward) Fear here in the US, despite the astronomically lower chance of something happening. I don't know if either way of dealing with the issue is healthy.

that sort of post-war denial (or ongoing-war) is possibly the case everywhere the threat is all too real. i lived it in the Philippines under martial law and still feel it in Cambodia where the government remains to "monitor" the news. i guess the simple reason is you've seen people you know get killed over defying some leadership, and it's unbearable.

genocide denial, such as Holocaust Denial, is of course an extreme form. from George Orwell via Wikipedia: "A known fact may be so unbearable that it is habitually pushed aside and not allowed to enter into logical processes, or on the other hand it may enter into every calculation and yet never be admitted as a fact, even in one's own mind."
