MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
(46)

New York City added an extra layer to the afro/funk/rock/jazz fusions that started happening at the end of the 60's and before long a slew of traditionally Latin bands were adding funk and rock to their salsa. Ocho was part of this New School, Singing in both English and Spanish, and burning up dance floors on the East Coast with their brand new funk (in 1972)

Here they are covering the mighty JB's Hot Pants Road. If you'd like to get more check comments.

Love it . I am a 70s junkie . Did they play all these instruments . Love to watch a band that can really jam so you can feel each instrument penetrate you .The thumping of percussion's or the lightness of the flue .Right on !

70's junkie..yeah,that's me too. There was a combination of knowledge and freedom, combined with a tad of freedom (the record companies were not part of conglomerates then), that allowed major labels to put out some very cool music. yes, there was a ton of crap, but there always is.

but ohh to have real records now . The days of the cds have taken that away . I miss my 45s and the special records that were sometimes in different colors .those were the good ole days , but w/o progress I guess we would not have this wonderful site

classic album, cody. i havent heard it in quite a while. some of the songs were a bit overplayed around here aka every funk dj was playing the album heavily. but that only shows how great the album is, and those tunes in spanish are always a plus. the 70s were a great era, a lot of people completely freaked out then. just watching the movies with everybody swearing, drinking, smoking and having a great time is awesome. we dont see much of that these days. also everybody seems to be a lot less hairy today, heh. not that im complaining.

summertime- you can still enjoy both formats, that is what i do.

Love the funk/rock/salsa blend or fusion; so dynamic. Missed this post on Friday, so it's a great way to kick-off the weekend. Is 'The Best Of Ocho' available on CD that you know of? Thank you, and as ever a superb post!

Hey GC, I don't see the best of on the labels site but it looks like all four of the originals are on cd. I can always hook you up if you can't find it. Happy Hunting

Very nice relaxed tracks. As it's getting colder here, it reminds of warmer countries. Sitting outside with a Cuba Libre or two ... ahhh.

Can't believe I'm getting to this so late. These guys are more jazz than your average funky outfit. But they are shit-sharp, aren't they?
