Working out of Henry Stone's TK Records in Miami, husband and wife, George and Gwen McCrae recorded their share of hits (as solo artists). George had the mega smash Rock Your Baby in '74, but for my money Gwen is the funkier of the 2. As evidence here's the often sampled "90% of Me Is You". Not to be outdone check George on the ultra funky pot anthem, "I Get Lifted," in comments. They are divorced..

Finally I don't have to feel slightly awkward about my love of Gwen. There are others! She's the shit. I never put together that her and George were linked. "I Get Lifted" is a great song. Awesome stuff as per usual Cody B

Have always wondered who recorded 90% Of Me Is You - love that track. George has that sumptious soulful funk vibe, but Gwen has a raw emotive power to her vocals that I especially like. Rockin' Chair/Let's Straighten It Out goes on the must have list. Diggin' the post!

Two corkers. Girlcrawl said it best - Gwen's voice is smoke and grit. And I'm digging George's track, too. What a bass player!

Additional info: TK records was run Motown stable style with writers and producers fighting to push their songs and get 'em waxed. In this case Gwen was working with Clarence "Blowfly" Reid and George was dealing with H.W, Casey (who doubled as the lead singer of KC and the Sunshine Band). The main session guitarist was another funk master Willie "Little Beaver" Hale. If you are into the TK sound check the individual artists or this fine SoulJazz label comp

Ah no way. Not Blowfly the master of class. I want to post "Dirty Rap" but I keep feeling like he's just too offensive. His stuff is so awesome though.
