I recognized the cut immediately from ther De La Soul - many thanks for that connection. I really like the way it's so airy but still delivers the funk.

Airy indeed Ivy, and with one of the awesomest percussion breaks ever. There is a famous 9 minute edit of the song that DJ's play where that percussion break is looped for 3 or 4 minutes to build tension up to the reprise of the horn theme that is, despite how boring it sounds when you write it out, Dope!
Michelle, you might really enjoy their entire ouvre cause the bass is almost the lead instrument in all their tunes.
Rawk, the soundtrack isn't enuf. You must have more, Brothers on the Side,The Message, Dove,Fug,Zion I are all great songs.

One of the all-time NYC underground club classics. Every DJ in La Ciudad used to spin the (then bootleg) Danny Krivit re-edit, which extends the bass break; and every dancer would pump their legs furiously and drop to the floor when the snare rolls into that same bass break.
Oddly, I think this song was one of the first times I recall slam dancing (and I wasn't even buzzed). Figure that.
