  1. RobP says At a glance the track I'm most curious about is the Ohio Players covering Mother in Law. Don't have any of these covers though, looks like a fun mix.

  3. ivylander says This is amazing. Lee "Scratch" Perry doing "Tighten Up"? The mind reels. I have that Ken Boothe cut, and it is truly prime. Wow..... A pedantic note: "Baltimore" is originally a Randy Newman song. Nina covered his version....

  5. Cody B says Also to Ivy's post..The Lee Scratch Perry, Tighten Up is really only a cover in name and spirit, without all the intrument call outs that Archie Bell does.

  7. Cody B says lol, thanks mk. When I got maried in 2001, I just couldn't narrow down what to play at my wedding, so I packed up a Ryder truck with 60-75% of my music collection and my friends DJ gear and set up a DJ area by the dancefloor that resembled my living room. Different folks then got up and took turns browsing and Dj'ing the reception. I got in a few sets, too.

  8. mktackabery says ah! that's fabulous --what a great idea! I'll bet they still talk about that as one of the best times they ever had.

  9. ivylander says Also, I just noticed Ramsey Lewis covering "Back In The USSR." Can't begin to imagine what that sounds like. But I'll bet it's epic....

  10. Cody B says Yo Ivy, The Ramsey Lewis has a weird intro w/treated piano and percussion (I think to simulate the jet sound, then breaks into a smooth funky electric piano version of the tune and then abruptly outros with a killer raw funk drumbreak.

  12. Soulfunksticat says I just recently ran across the Baby Huey album and bought it online. He's got a few covers on that album that are absolutely smokin'. One of my current favorites.
