ksiglutz,If you liked Headhunters, Check out Sextant (1972), too, for more afro-funk rhythms w/Herbie.More importantly seek out the same musicians minus Herbie onThe Headhunters-Survival of the Fittest (1975). 2. deadmandeadman says Nice. Very nice. But you shoulda mentioned a few more things about SURVIVAL OF THE FITEST. Great lost funk/rock/groove slab of vinyl. A rhythm section of controlled cool chaos an' chops you can shave with. This was the REAL thing, straight, no chaser. If they only had a lyricist!

  3. Cody B says You are right..deadmanx2, but I didn't want to scare a young, potential herbie-ophile away with anything too hyperbolic, syllasabic, or sesquedalymitic.

  7. Cody B says Survival of the Fittest is out there, with some very freaky parts, but the rhythm section does groove in first rate style. On the Herbie tip, though, don't miss his 60's Blue Note stuff. Not necessairily funky, but on the real jazz tip.
