45 (as in RPM) collectors, bloggers, and Northern Soul crate diggers have been raving about these Georgia-based Labels,both run by a cat named Jesse Jones. Just recently the Numero Group dropped a 50 song,2 disc comp. on the labels, that falls heavily on the good music side of rarity crate digging.
In some cases these compilations of incredibly rare singles thrive on the back story, but these cuts, especially those of Eula Cooper, leave you wondering why these records didn't get further than afficionado status.
Some of Eula's singles were picked up for national distribution by Atlantic, but in general her 12 sides (and the rest of the cuts from folks like J.J. Jones, Tee Fletcher, and Tokay Lewis) , were strictly local fare. Judging from the sound of the collection, Atlanta had some talent.
Posted here is Eula's national "hit", Shake Daddy Shake. Check out Try, and the Northern Soul fave, Let Our Love Grow Higher, in comments. Eula is the focus of this comp, but the rest is all sturdy Southern Soul with a touch of funk. If you are searching for soul, look no further.

Well now Cody, this is indeed a fine find. Had the fickle finger of fate not ignored this it couldda, shouldda wouldda been.
"Try" makes me wonder why the vibes (the instrument, I mean) ever fell out of fashion in soul records. Concurrence on Eula's singing - so cool, with that faint undercurrent of grit. Nice, nice. And we won't even get into that magnificent 'fro....

The arranger Thomas (Tommy) Stewart went on to put out are rare groove disco funk classic a ferw years down the road..which was reissued by the also great Luv N' Haight. I'll stick with Eula though.

Two posts in a comment is a lot like the way it used to be (opening additional browsers, dl'ing tracks, and C/P'ing code), except it adds the step of importing the player code...huh, maybe I am nerdy..or persistent. More likely, just crazy.

Interesting. Georgia, huh? Eula taps that early Motown chick sound - Mary Wells comes to mind - but in a slightly rougher, more funkified setting with just a bit of that old Stax-Voltage. You're ever on guard for the goods, C.B.!

Cody, I owe you a much belated thank you for all the great posts as of late. I've enjoyed all your recent recommendations, including the Ann Sexton, Diplomats of Solid Sounds, and this one (the Eccentric Soul album is now waiting patiently on my Amazon "wish list", until pay day comes). Your know-how in the world of funky soul is just what I needed on a football-infested Sunday night, when I was itching for some new music to purchase. Thanks, and may the grooves keep movin' ya!

Quick story:
When I met my wife she asked me if I was one of those "types of guy's who watch Football every Sunday." (At that point I had kinda stopped watching football, because my life long Denver Bronco obseession had waned a bit after they actually won a Super Bowl, plus I was a little burned out on parity.)
I told my wife I'd never spend a Sunday in front of the TV again, if I could watch baseball without upsetting her. She agreed.
She didn't realize there are 162 games in the baseball season, but I do spend a lot of fall Sundays out in the woods hiking.
I'd say it was a win-win.

Hmmm, if Dusty Groove doesn'T have it (being a Chicago spot) I'm guessing no one has done it yet on CD. I have 4 tunes and a remix..You'll see 'em M'ed shortly..I guess he made only one LP (other than his Ali tribute) and it was produced by Andre Williams..Dusty was selling the used vinyl for 9.99.
