WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

I Think I Found The (Gospel)Funk (HOB 1356)

Posted about 1 year ago
I hoped and prayed this one would not posted already. Oh my gosh, this is one bump-knockious gospel tune. Recorded by the venerable Swan Silvertones sometime around 1969, but not venerable sounding in the slightest. All praises due to the shuffle and all curses on me for not knowing about this song 'til now. Enjoy.

  7. Cody B says Anna Said: he must be a very inspiring one :) or she Anna, right? I'm fine with a funky female Goddess. Bartleby- LOL to the Nietzsche. The funk is implied in their earlier material, but it comes right out front here. That intro is begging to be sampled..when I first heard it I though it was some lost funk track.

  8. Bartleby says If more people spread the word of the Lord lile the Swan Silvertones, I think I would have been a convert a long time. That "Sinnerman" cut radiates with joy in the presence of god. Thanks again Cody.

  9. Cody B says B to tha B- The book I keep pimpin' here, Boogaloo by Arthur Kempton, talks about just how secular things were behind the scenes on the Gospel chitlin' circuit..I recommend it for a pointed look at the development of Afra American (the books' term) music in the USA.

So glad you are back in the house. poe, I swear on a stack of bibles that I thought the late, great Baudilino or silver-eared Spike might have offered this, but the Lord schloopified those thoughts and set me free.
