I am not a good Funk Fu fighter. Funk finder, perhaps. This comp of Cuban "funk" really leans toward the jazz/salsa fusion side of funk, but the groove is most definitely in effect. On the posted Jorge Reyes cut the bass is en fuego (in a Jaco-esque way) and the percussions are extra funky. Not really for the dance floor, but still more than suitable for Friday.Like I said, I'm no booty expert, I like mine aged, white, and cheesy:Crunch On!

  3. Hermes says Is that popcorn with old cheese or whut? Did the Frenchmen export their love for old scruffy cheese to the U.S.? One year ago I have been on a wedding in France and hell, they had some Camenbert that was more liquid than solid. You could not cut that thing any more, you had to dip your bread into it. I really like cheese, but there's a limit, that is not meant to be passed .. ;). And that baseline is rumbling neatly.

  4. runobodyii says I likes it. Think I can ante up to this.

  5. Cody B says Thank Run, I'll see that ante and raise you a Groupo Los Yoyi - El Fino. This one kinda rocks the blaxploitation angle. Bourgeoisie-sploitation? So you don't like it all gooey Hermes? Understandable, but there's no denying the funk factor with cheese that's been at room temperature for awhile.

  7. Hermes says There's a border when gooey gets too gooey for me. But that border is expanding by-and-by. I like "El Fino" even more than "Pocito 11". Have to track this song .. .

  8. Cody B says Hermes, it's from the same comp..Si Para Usted, here's another Los 5-U-4 - Baila Ven y Baila

  9. Hermes says Yo, I did find that out by googeling, and .. wohooo ... I found the album too. :) Thanks for that tasty hint. Btw., if you want to do me a huge favor, go over to runobodyiis ">post":http://mog.com/blog_post/view/155514 and check, if you recognize, if the second track, that I posted in the comments, is a cover (Turntablerocker - A little Funk). I already checked "The Breaks". The Turntablerocker are not listed there.

  10. consumerx says Wow. They are absolutely shredding it. Not just the bassist although his work is something to behold. That percussionist or section is getting it done too. Little short on the groove, but the music geek in me likes it quite a bit. Thanks. The bands in both of the tracks you posted obviously have some real nice chops. I just checked out the label's site and see that the album also has luminaries like Los Van Van and Irakere on it. Might have to pick it up or wait for the remix they mention.

  11. consumerx says Wanted to throw a track into the fray, that althoug a bit more contemporary seems in keeping with the theme of this post. Pretty chill and even pedestrian until a little more than 1/2 way thru, then they get pretty funk wid it. Caballeros Para El Monte from Free Hole Negro

  12. Bartleby says My goodness, I'm only glad you're not a Funk-Fu fighter because with such a booty you'll be blasting all other combatants' heads off. All the tracks are as you said very fusion-funk which is one favourite funk sub-genre. All the cuts are pretty percussive. Thanks also to consumerx for his salsa-flavoured funk.

  13. bloodtea says Cody, let nobody tell you're not the funk master of this mog-o-sphere! Gee, I must say there isn't better combination than some jazz/latin funk fusion stuffed with white cheddar... damn!

  14. Hermes says Great tune, consumerx. Reminds me a bit of Mexican HipHop, only that here the slice of salsa is much more dominant. Have to look for Free Hole Negro ... a caballo vamos, a caballo vamos a buscar esta chinga de una canción .. ;)
