Funky Friday For NOLA

Posted about 1 year ago
Bon Temps Mogger "tipiboy":http://mog.com/tipiboy ◄ just dropped the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Line up and that's good news. Still, despite whatever Brownie and his ilk have done, the musical heart of our country is not in the best of shape. Let's not forget to remember New Orleans. To aid this cause here's a cool comp of NOLA Funk and Soul from the geniuses at Ace records. Included for your fest pre-party planning, here's Bayou boogie Queen Katie Webster with Hell Or High Water. Also check out Bury The Hatchet and the classic funker Black Water Gold In Comments. If you are going to fest, have fun, spend money, and say hi for me.

  7. oiseaux says Now that Black Water Gold is just killin'! Its' like when you close your eyes, you can see: smoothin' over to the bar as you check your fro in the rouge hue from the overhead liquir lights boucing off so much red vinyl pleather couches and tabletops shining from too much liquor spilt and wet bar towel swirls. Being bumped by the booty shaking crowd of hoots and 'Yess'sir's in a hot and funky oasis! Man, your taking me back to some seriosly post-sixties East 14th, Oakland California type of s#@t. nice one. -bpd

  10. Cody B says I couldn't resist buying that record Ms.D...alas there aint nothing in the ballpark of Black Water Gold on it, but that didn't stop me from buying it..9 times out of 10 I buy any record that depicts afros, funny hats, tambourines, or flared pants... Yes No

  11. HelenMarie says Really, ya can't even trust google these day! WhoTF is Mac Davis?! haha! You'd prob pick this one up tho...

  12. Cody B says Probably, especially if it cam to pass that Mac was holding a tambourine and wearing flared pants on the back cover..Oooh Mac's quite a player singer/songwriter/actor..He played the Quaterback to Nick Nolte's junkie wide receiver in North Dallas forty. He wrote "A Little Less Conversation" For Elvis. and scaled the top the the charts in '72 w/ Baby Don't Get hooked on Me..A real renaissance man. It would really depend on the pants..

  13. HelenMarie says I had no idea about Mac, seems like he's made a name for himself and I just needed a little education. I too would like to see him a little more funk-ified esp with groovy pants.

  14. I am says For the record Mac did the Muppet Show. In my book that is like the epitome of cool. Smokin' main track (I'll get back to the others after work) Cody. I have the same affliction when it comes to buying records. Did you see that schedule, my head is spinning. Speaking of heads, nice ice.

  15. HelenMarie says Muppet Show too...? The Muppets are/were the best Electric Mayhem - Can You Picture That My hub has one of their T-shirts it says '77 or '79 tour. People love it!

  19. Cody B says Good call, Timm..That comp above is better than the one I posted if you have nothing or are just diving into the bayou funk scene. It contains many classics. The ACE comp I posted is for the NOLA fan who has everything..which considering the output of the Crescent City is next to impossible. Cheers. Thanks Poe..I didn't notice til after, how the 3 tunes I picked had a little bit of political significance if you choose to look at 'em that way. Hell or High Water- Katrina Bury The Hatchet- Iraq Black water Gold - The power of NOLA funk in the face of Katrina Hmmm..maybe an essay topic. I'll marinate on that.
