Angular British Funky Friday Cover

I 'spose A Certain Ratio heard this tune dancing the night away at a Northern Soul function or some other hipster spot in Manchester, but they do a nice job with it. The tune they covered was only 5 years old and you'll see it in comments..

  2. HelenMarie says Wow...those 2 on the floor are really getting turned on by the jam!? I'm a little disappointed the video seemed to end right at the peak, but then again they were all male musicians. Ha!

  8. starrjammz says Thanx for sharing this CB ! Besides the early UK-funk scene from the 80's , like Hi-Tension / I-Level / / Kandidate / Light Of The World / Second Image / The Warriors / and much much more , this group had a specific sound of their own . imho. There has been been released a great compilation from them ... i believe by the reissue-company www.whatmusic.com I have one album here at home from a UK-group , called "Set The Tone" ... they also recorded their tracks in a sorta similar wave-funk style , with loud plucking & popping bassguitar-chops.

  9. starrjammz says I made an error about the Certain Ratio-reissue ... it's on Soul Jazz Records : www.juno.co.uk/ppps/products/92634-01.htm&highlight=certain%20ratio Here's a scan from Set The Tone's LP : setthetone-hiftinairaffair ( 1983 / Island Records )

  10. Cody B says Thanks Starr..I was a Factory Fanboy for sure..they did a lot of borrowing from Funk while retaining their own sound..I remember the Force album where they even dipped into Go-Go beats..which were all the rage then..Manchester doing DC..that was a interesting fusion.

  13. poebegone says i luvs me some ACR as well and this was a real sendoff to the weekend. (oh, lookie, it's Friday again!) not very related but, while listening to The Clash's Overpowered by Funk yesterday, i thought the post-punk/punk-funk relationship over the years should be so interesting to explore.

  14. Cody B says You're right about that Ms.Poe..I always think back to how the mainstream media (what I was watching) covered Punk/funk with Rick James the standard bearer! We know a bit better now,huh..
