Track:You Didn't Have To

One of the best moments of my music biz career came to pass in a hotel meeting room early in the morning. I had a hangover that was ripping through my skull like a Norwegian ice breaker. After my first night of music convention partying, I was not looking forward to a day of meetings. I skulked into the room, slumped into a chair and looked up in horror to see a bunch of amps and instruments just about 10 feet away.
Our cruel (I thought) bosses were all chipper and clear eyed when they announced, "We have a special treat for you this morning, we're gonna have some music."
I buried my head and thought, oh no, this might actually kill me.
My evil oppressors (I thought) then announced,"Please welcome our number one gospel act Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC's."
I was new to my company so I was still a bit skeptical, scared, and in deep pain. Plus, I didn't know who Lee Williams was. Mr. Williams walked out in front of the fairly indie rock, hungover, mostly agnostic crowd and said, "Are y'all ready to have some church in here this mornin'"
We let out a half hearted, "Amen", and Lee kinda chuckled, turned to the band and launched into, "You Didn't Have to." Shortly thereafter, I was a fan for life. While I didn't convert to Christianity, I am most definitely a convert to the neo-gospel quartet sound of Lee Williams.
If only these guys could be around to wake me up every morning..
Check the vid for a brief history of the QC's..

A radical atheist writes:
They're no Soul Stirrers featuring Sam Cooke, or the Pilgrim Travellers doing "Jesus Hits Like the Atom Bomb", but fun listen nonetheless.
Just picked up a Salem Travellers record from '69..first time through it sounds like a winner. Soon come.
Rousing, man! (And I'm an agnostic.)
It ain't the meat, it's the motion.
It ain't the message, it's the music.
Primo.

Hey MTK, I posted this over on the evil FB and the old boss I mention saw it and complained about me dissing him.
In the words of Thor, "Nay, I say unto thee!" (Maybe I'm more inclined to accept the Norse pantheon of gods than the Judeo-Christian diety.) Anyway, it seemed like you were making fun of your own preconceptions. A thin-skinned boss? Who'd believe it?
A Rarity in the high level sales part of the biz..this boss actually played music..I can't say the same. I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing. Peace MTK.
Wow, If Mike The Knife were, Mike Le Knife, he'd be MLK. See, I know nothing.
Cody B, if you haven't already gone the Jazz Fest in NOLA you definitely need to go and hang at the gospel tent; what a kick. Next year end of April thru 1st week in May.

Thanks DB, Only went to fest once...the Gospel tent was a destination.
Yeah, one of my daughter's friend's Dad is stage manager every year at the gospel tent. Says it is one of the best places to be.
The father of my daugher's friend. That's better!
Amen
Peace be with you..Packed yet?
Cody, I enjoyed this track. I have a hunch that Sam & Dave's old hit "I Thank You" helped inspire it.
I live for those moments about which I can later say to myself, "Shortly thereafter, I was a fan for life."
Packed and arrived. Just bumped into a NOLA ex-pat here in Nati too.
Spike I live for those moments too.
If only Sam & Dave could influence more Spike...I can dream.
Glad you made it safe and sound Oat..Perhaps those moments could become a post topic? Good idea -scribles down in notebook-glad
Iyou thought of it.Haha. It could, I just need the right song and some "blob out on the internet" time.
Not like now, when I am having some procrastinate on the internet time. Just one paper and I am officially on summer, despite the already achieved relocation.
Envy is all mine..I'm taking classes all Summer.
