MOG 1 for Cody B

Posted about 1 year ago
I had never been involved in any social/music communities on the web before MOG,and I believe this is about the only place a pseudo-luddite like myself could plant roots and move into the 21st century. Thanks MOGHere's what happened this year for me on MOG:Mark Heyert,The Headhunters, Isaac Hayes, deadmandeadman telling me to lose my thesaurus, ivylander witicisims, jsguntzel's word pictures, crashpryor, mickimicki, blair's dancing movies, rawkpimp smackdowns, smooth hegemon, kate, mixes galore, david hyman telling me I need to like Dusty Springfield, refereeing bobby broom vs. jen kelly, kristiana's insights, anna and dale's mog wars, the raw-kidd-o (he killed me), mktackabery and the birth of funky friday, the class of girlcrawl, the sass of the indie pixie, the steady hand of Jonh Ingham, the deep ears of Spike, the north island sounds of Dzendvokh, Oatmeal to NOLA, the fountains of eclectcism-soulrocket and fistula spume, the political jams of I am (not to mention his kids and mine sharing their woodstock moment), chucky-isms, the mysterious Old School C,the brief wit of wdog,Joanna Newsom, The death, life, and singles sets of James Brown, Numero classics,Jess Horrible, wearwoolf (has never made a post, but his rare comments are appreciated),manysevens, mundotronica, the humor of etcvisitor,Cymande, multiply, masoo on fridays, lemontwist,Robert Ward,Lester Jonze, the sparkle of lizziegreeneyes, the philly mog meet, dermahrk showing me his iphone (my first),RoBp,bawston sean,Thecitizen, ciarian,Motown vs. stax, Hip Hop 101,Jazz 101, Budos Band,Proffessor Chainsaw,Utah Spike, the incredible words of poebegone, mike the knife, and brendanhalpin, the wisdom of the horse he rode in on and Universalis, arguing on aclasson posts, chatting with Greg Osby, sekout,kb,Mr.Frost,Betty Davis, fastnbulbous,Baaad Jazz, reckon,Lady Miss Ian,Terry Callier, funkjester, pseudo cyborg, troy powers,Nixne sivx (i killed him),Hermes, groon (my biggest laugh of the year),the blues expertise of mousetrapmedia, tigand, changling, WyzeWon,bloodtea, carolyn (and all the great new(er) moggers),and 1,000,000 other people, sights, and sounds I experienced here. (don't hate me if you aren't here,I never had a chance to do a De La Soul-style album jacket shout out list)Nice One folks!I'll end it all with a quote from crash: ”That’s one of the first lessons you learn: when you’re listening closely to a really tight outfit “breathing” together, all that pretension is eviscerated, the nut gets cracked open and something else reveals itself. ” Crash was talking about jazz but it sums up the way I feel about my first year here..thanks again.

This is my first experience of an online community too, and I didn't realize how engaging it was going to be, I didn't realize that all you moggers would enter into my sphere of experience in the way that you have. Thanks for all that you bring, your deep knowledge of music, personal experience, and your extraordinary ability to make the MOG rounds and comment with your unique style.

  15. Groon says Happy Mog-Day, Cody!! You know, in my thinking, if you're biggest laugh of the year came from me . . . well, you probably need to get out more. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, dropping the funk so exquisitely every Friday (I may not post much on 'em, but I do listen to 'em, usually with my kids in the room so they can get their dance on), and generally being one of the people that make this place worth a damn!

Hm. All the posts before mine seem to have occurred at dawn December 1, yet it's currently still Nov. 30 on the west coast. Are there time zones I don't know of? I thought space was the place. Where's that leave time?

Our phone calls are a treat 'cause we really never know where they will take us. We may start off with an idea, but it usually never seems to end there. Thanks for being a sounding board for my ideas and giving great one's in return. One year, does it really seem to be that long? Well Happy Anniversary Cody! And many more.

An area i think I can bring something to the table (and my mama always said, bring something when you visit). As far as i'm concerned y'all hold down the other stuff so well I just sit back and enjoy..you moggers do it good..real good.
