Salacious Soul 2:The All Platinum label
-
Artist:
I don't put a whole lot of stock in who's in and who isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, but let me give you these credentials:1.Performed the hit version of one of the most influential songs of 1957. (Mickey and Sylvia's-Love Is Strange)2.Performed the number one soul song of 1973. (Pillow Talk as Sylvia)3.Started a successful record label, All Platinum, that scored numerous number one soul hits.4.Started the record label,Sugar Hill, that commercially launched the most influential music/cultural movement of the last 20 years of the 20th century (hip hop). With Grandmaster Flash going into the hall this year, I think Sylvia Robinson is due. There's plenty of folks in that joint who did a whole lot less. And while the hall is fixing that they should put the other founder of Stax records (Estelle Axton, The Ax part of Stax) in as well. Jim Stewart is already in.
While (if) you marinate on that, take a listen to this Salacious Soul gem from the Moments (who later went on to become Ray,Goodman, and Brown), who recorded for Sylvia's All Platinum label. (for more salaciousness "check out reckon's Rimshots post":http://mog.com/Reckon/blog_post/117652 they were also on All Platinum)Sylvia for the RRHOF in 2009
