Salacious Soul 2:The All Platinum label

Posted over 2 years ago
I don't put a whole lot of stock in who's in and who isn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, but let me give you these credentials:1.Performed the hit version of one of the most influential songs of 1957. (Mickey and Sylvia's-Love Is Strange)2.Performed the number one soul song of 1973. (Pillow Talk as Sylvia)3.Started a successful record label, All Platinum, that scored numerous number one soul hits.4.Started the record label,Sugar Hill, that commercially launched the most influential music/cultural movement of the last 20 years of the 20th century (hip hop). With Grandmaster Flash going into the hall this year, I think Sylvia Robinson is due. There's plenty of folks in that joint who did a whole lot less. And while the hall is fixing that they should put the other founder of Stax records (Estelle Axton, The Ax part of Stax) in as well. Jim Stewart is already in.While (if) you marinate on that, take a listen to this Salacious Soul gem from the Moments (who later went on to become Ray,Goodman, and Brown), who recorded for Sylvia's All Platinum label. (for more salaciousness "check out reckon's Rimshots post":http://mog.com/Reckon/blog_post/117652 they were also on All Platinum)Sylvia for the RRHOF in 2009

  7. Bartleby says Cody, I'm beginning your saucy choices of soul. Really delectable edification to me. Thanks ever so much for opening my ears to such savoury sounds...

  8. ivylander says Since when have I become MOG's resident goatman? It's unfair, I tell you. Besides, the last time I told Mrs. Ivylander, "There's about to be a love explosion," she handed me a mop.

  9. Cody B says Ivy-To me you are the master commenter. Able to crystalize complex thoughts into pithy statements with Billy Wilder-esque humor..Of course the fact that you attend crack fueled Obama rallies at Hooters may push some to believe otherwise.

  12. soultronica says Ahhh suki suki, now. I need to drop this for the SBC. You know the old adage: if you don't get any with this on the set, it ain't the music's fault.

  13. Girlcrawl says 'Sexy Mama' is a gem indeed - could leave that track on repeat play indefinitely. Sylvia definitely has my vote for the RRHOF; the ability to sport that groovy 'yellow hat' whilst exuding drop-dead cool should have guaranteed an honourable mention!

  14. Cody B says Thanks,GC..this thread started out slow, but turned out pretty well. Thanks for popping by..I was serious though about the Boys club mentality at the RRHOF, but I prolly shouldn't be suprised that 2 of the top women executives of all time are snubbed..

  15. Spike says Great post, Cody. It's great to learn about her 70's doings, and be seduced by her in the video.
