Artist: Album: Burning Dervish Volume 22 Track: Tchela Etbelegn
Other Tags: mog, burning dervish, ethiopiques

There's been some grumbling lately from the MOGvets, me included, but a couple of things happened yesterday that helped me remember to remember that MOG is still the schizznit.

1)I still, after a year and half, rarely go one day without hearing something I never heard before.

2)I am constantly hearing music I already know (or think I know) through new ears, from my trusted moggers.
Check the golden-eared Spike along with other great MOGgers here, adding to what I already thought was good and making it better

3)Moggers are really generous. ►Check the burningdervish, with an outstanding mix of African and Reggae tunes

One of the tunes on his mix, posted above (the 22nd mix he's posted here), led me to pick up Ethiopiques 16,cause I'm now in love with Asnaqètch Wèrqu. She plays the krar. The krar is a five- or six-stringed bowl-shaped lyre from Eritrea and Ethiopia . The instrument is tuned to a pentatonic scale.(wiki)

Even though I know the record comes from Ethiopia, it sounds to me like one of those old 78's straight out of Appalachia. Killer stuff and the kind of stuff I only find out about right here on the M-O-G.

So yeah, you might hear me complain about this or that bug, or some spam, but I come back, every day, 'cause there's always something good.

Thanks MOG .

Thanks Hermes. I know I like to complain about things, but I want to make sure I appreciate all the good. I'm glad your back around here too, you always have a different perspective on things.

I've posted on Tami Lynn before. She cut one brilliant Southern Soul LP produced mainly by Wardell Quezergue (a NOLA soul master rivaling the great Allen Toussaint).
Check that one here for more info on Tami

One of the great things about Tami's record is the song suite on side one, that ties diverse songs together with monologues that were style of the day.

I didn't know the second track, Wings Upon Your Horn, was a Loretta Lynn tune, but now that I do know it makes a whole lot of sense. Southern Soul and Country music have a lot in common, even though this weeper gets 2 very different readings.

Check out the cheatin' intrigue and heartache from Tami here and see Loretta's original in comments.
